Bet Mishpachah Web Credits
In Memoriam
Mark Goldfarb (
)
Release 2.0 of the Bet Mishpachah Web site is dedicated to the
memory of Mark Goldfarb (z"l), whose untimely death in January, 1999 left a void in the lives of his many friends and family, and in particular
on the congregation's Communications Committee, where Mark had been a very
energetic and enthusiastic participant. Mark served as the congregation's
Webweaver during late 1997 and 1998 and performed a masterful job in maintaining
the site and in ensuring that all of the information in the congregation's
calendar, newsletter, and Web site were in sync (no small feat!).
At the time of his death, Mark had just launched the process of redesigning this
Web site, engaging the efforts of many members of the congregation. After
nearly a year of steady effort by those of us who carried on this work in his
memory,
the new site made its debut in October, 1999, on Columbus Day Weekend
("Discover a New World on the Web!"). Mark is deeply missed
by all of his colleagues on the Communications Committee.
A Brief History of Bet Mishpachah on the Web
by David
Horowitz
Bet Mishpachah made its debut on the World Wide Web in October 1996,
and it's been great fun ever since! In early 1996, the congregation
engaged the services of a consultant, Stessa
Cohen, who helped us plan our original concept and design our initial
Web pages, under the supervision of then-congregation Board Member Karl
Schwartz. Subsequently, the page was maintained by Webweavers
Devra
Floyd, David
Horowitz, and Mark Goldfarb (z"l), under the direction of the
congregation's various Communications Committee chairs over the years.
Today, the Web site is maintained by the congregation's
esteemed Webweaver,
Sam David, Assistant Webweaver,
Carol Calhoun ,
and a team of dedicated volunteers,
under the direction of the congregation's Communications Committee
chair. The expert leadership and programming competence of Carol Calhoun,
currently Assistant Webweaver and at various times in the past Communications Committee chair and Webweaver, brought us kicking and screaming into the age of secure online credit
card transaction processing, CGI's, Perl, and JavaScript. Under
Carol's supervision, the Web site subsequently went on to win
the July 1999 Rainbow Award,
presented for GLBT Excellence on the Web (yeah Carol!)
Deepest thanks are due to the many volunteers who have worked on the
Web site over the years and who maintain it today. Our apologies
if we have omitted anyone -- please
let us know! And please let us know if you'd like to get involved! |
